Cerritos concludes season in SCC Crossover Finisher

Taking on host Pasadena City College in the first South Coast Conference Crossover Finisher game, the Cerritos College volleyball team dropped a 20-25, 17-25, 10-25 decision on Friday night. The concept was to have the first place teams in the South Division and North Division face each other, as well as the second place teams and so on. The Falcons (12-11, 5-3) and Lancers (19-6, 6-2) were the second place teams in their respective conferences, with schools from the North Division serving as the host.

It was a rough season for the Falcons, who had three of their key players lost for the season due to injury. It came off a season where Cerritos qualified for the 3C2A State Championships for the first time since 1994.

The team had their best chance of catching Pasadena City off guard in the first set when they led, 19-17 late in the set. Both teams started slowly on the night, with each struggling to find their rhythm. The trio of freshmen Jordin Lewis (Warren HS), Tiffany Teats (Warren HS) and Elizabeth Beltran (Warren HS) all had a pair of kills to get the team in front. However, Pasadena City was able to run off six consecutive points to take a 23-19 lead and went on to take the set. 25-20.

The road just got tougher from that point forward, as the Falcons could not create any momentum, while the Lancers were hitting their groove in the next two sets. Cerritos did not lead at any point the remainder of the match.

Lewis and Beltran each finished with seven kills and combined for 13 digs, while Teats had five kills. Freshman Roselyn Tobie (Maxine Waters HS) recorded 13 digs in the back row
